Bowling for Columbine (2002)Related Sitea-generic.com is not responsible for the content of external sites |
I have enjoyed Michael Moore's TV shows for probably about 10 years now - his ability to
take on the big corporations and organisations, and make you laugh at the same time is
something that has always appealed. I haven't seen "Roger and Me", or read "Stupid White
Men" (yet), but knowing the subject matter of "Bowling for Columbine" certainly aroused
my curiousity.
I must admit though, I felt "The Awful Truth" didn't quite have the same impact on me as "TV Nation", so I went into this documentary wondering if it would live up to my expectations. It did much more than live up to, or even exceed them ... If you have seen Michael Moore before, try to remember the one segment that had the most impact on you - that is nothing compared to what Bowling for Columbine did to me. It truely knocked me for 6, showing not only issues on America's love affair with the gun, but also touching on America's foreign policy (past and present), and just how much impact the media have there, along with other issues. This documentary not only educates and informs, but leaves you with many things to analyse and carry with you long after seeing it - for me it not only did this, but reaffirmed many things I had heard from other sources, helping me to paint a stronger picture in my mind on many issues. Bowling for Columbine was also my wife's introduction to Michael Moore's work, and I wasn't sure what the result of it would be, but the overall impact and enjoyment of it was on a par with mine. Although there are scenes that are disturbing (not just to some viewers, but I think most people), and strong issues looked at, don't be put off by that. Bowling for Columbine is laced with Michael Moore's usual twisted humour, and you come out feeling entertained as well as informed. This film has just become the highest grossing documentary in Australia (February 2003), and I really must say deservedly so - I hope the whole world takes notice of it, but in particular the US where it would be the biggest wake-up call for people of all. I don't say this lightly when it comes to documentaries, but this one is a must see ... |
